Join me for this deep dive into Restorative Yoga, combined with Somatics inspired movement, all taught with a trauma sensitive approach.
Both Restorative yoga & Somatics gives the nervous system a chance to "reset" from stress to a relaxation response. In today's world where stress and anxiety are at an all time high this is more valuable and in demand than ever.
Restorative
Restorative Yoga works by placing the body in supported postures for a few minutes at a time. The postures work through the body but are not "about" the body. Instead of trying to increase flexibility or strength the poses create a relaxation response. The posture helps to soften the breath, so in turn the parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated.
Somatics
Stillness can be tricky when we are stressed and pain can be "upregulated" or increased during stress; so this intensive shares Somatic movement as a way to complement the restorative practice.
Somatics describes a family of gentle movement practices that work through the nervous system, combining easeful movement with the breath. These practices can be an effective way to connect mind and body and can help us move into deeper states of rest and stillness.
Koshas
The practices and exploration will be shared within the yoga kosha model - the 5 layers of our existence. This describes the interconnection of our physical body, with the life force or subtle body. The koshas also describe the integration of body & mind - how the mind and emotions play out in our physical experience. Beyond this the koshas describe our inherent wisdom and potential for bliss.
